Interview

1. What was the motivation for choosing this setting (e.g. being a sniper) for the game?

Creating first person shooters through the years we always found the subject of marksmen very exciting. Being the predator, observing your prey who doesn’t have a clue that he is in your sights makes you feel powerful. We wanted the players to experience this amazing feeling. Finally the Chrome4 Engine allowed us to create an environment suitable for a game about snipers. We believe we have created the best sniping experience in a video game ever.

2. How realistic is the game?

There are several factors the Player has take in consideration when lining up his shot: the wind, the distance, the weather conditions (rain, fog, etc.) and also (like a real sniper) has to have the ability to control his own body, focus on the target. The enemies behave naturally: they go from calm to urgent and alarmed depending on the Player’s actions. When developing the game we understood that not everyone would enjoy 100% realistic sniper gameplay so our main goal was to keep it fun. Also, in Easy Mode you can switch on an indicator which will show you where the bullet is going to hit, so the game becomes friendly for more inexperienced players.

3. Did you consult any real “snipers” prior or during development?

The scriptwriter we worked with consulted American soldiers for dialogues. Also we went through all available media from battlefield footage through sniper training videos to interviews to get references.

4. How long has it been in development? And what were the main challenges in developing the game?

The game has been in development since mid-2008. Obviously there where a lot of issues throughout this time but the one we worked especially hard on is balancing the gameplay in terms of realism/fun.

5. How “big” is the game (how many hours till you reach the end)?

For the average player, the playing time for the single-player campaign should be upward of 11 hours + the multiplayer, which offers four different game modes.

6. Are there any differences between the PC and Xbox360 version?

Both versions are identical, but you can dial up the graphics quite a bit higher on a high-powered PC for some extra visual goodness.

7. What is the target-audience for this game?

Most of the FPS players who will pick up the game will find something for themselves: you can play in a more realistic way, or go for the Easy Mode. Throughout the game the players will have to use stealth to pass enemy territory, do some long distance shooting, will play as a soldier from an assault unit and go gun-blazing. This game is for anyone who enjoys pulling the trigger from a first person perspective.

8. Did you have any “role models” for this game? What other games did influence “Sniper”?

None of the games that came out where role models from A to Z. Certain moments from games, movies, documentaries we enjoyed where a great influence for creating SGW. Our game is unique: a full-blown modern times sniper game with unpredictable tempo changes.

9. Will a demo be released (prior launch)?

A demo for the game is planned, a release date will be announced at a later time.

10. Why should we play “Sniper”? ;-)
