Die Gerüchte haben sich bewahrheitet. Apple übernimmt Beats Electronics. Die beiden Beats-Gründer Jimmy Iovine und Dr. Dre arbeiten ab sofort für Apple. Die Übernahme von Beats Electronics ist die mit Abstand größte, die Apple je getätigt hat.

Auch Beats-Mitgründer Jimmy Iovine äußerte sich zu der Übernahme: „Ich wusste schon immer, dass Beats und Apple zusammengehören. Die Idee, unser Unternehmen zu gründen, war inspiriert von Apples unübertroffener Fähigkeit, Kultur und Technologie zu vereinen. Apples großes Engagement für Musik-Fans, Künstler, Songschreiber und die Musik-Industrie ist etwas besonderes.“
Sowohl Iovine als auch Dr. Dre werden zu Apple wechseln. Mit welchen Aufgaben Cook sie betrauen wird und welche Titel sie tragen werden, ist noch nicht bekannt. Beats-Music-CEO Ian Rogers wird Apple-Manager Eddy Cue unterstellt, der für Onlinedienste verantwortlich ist.

Apple to Acquire Beats Music & Beats Electronics
CUPERTINO, California—May 28, 2014—Apple® today announced it has agreed to acquire the critically acclaimed subscription streaming music service Beats Music, and Beats Electronics, which makes the popular Beats headphones, speakers and audio software. As part of the acquisition, Beats co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre will join Apple. Apple is acquiring the two companies for a total of $3 billion, consisting of a purchase price of approximately $2.6 billion and approximately $400 million that will vest over time.
